For a very long time already the divers Cryptocorynes are used as foreground plants and a number are extremely suitable for it. At the utmost foreground for example the pictured Cryptocoryne x wilissii, that was known for a long time as Cryptocoryne nevellii is very good suitable. She isn't inferior to Glossostigma pictured on the page before. At sufficient illumination the leafs lay flat on the bottom and a foreground like that doesn't need any maintenance for years, excepting the removal of some yellowish leafs. Of Cryptocorine becketti there exist, as one indicates, two varieties in color. Pictured by me on top left and right. At my firm conviction it are one and the same species, that according to the circumstances takes a certain color. In my aquarium, where is a lot of peat in the bottom and with acid water, their color turned within three quarters of a year from brown into dark green. This species certainly does not belong to the foreground. Placed there at acquisition in a tank just set up, they will, in proportion as they extend and grow more tightly at each other, grow ever more high and at least form a dissonance in the composition. |
The Cryptocoriye
albida pictured left at the bottom, seems to suffer at this trouble. However
the aquarist has putted this plant in the bottom, including the black cupping-plastic,
exactly like they are sold in the aquarium shop. It is wise to remove these pots
carefully, before planting, and the substrate of rock- or glass wool on which
they were grown, as well. Cryptocoryne beckettii (known for years
at the name Cr. petchii or in the Netherlands the pheasants feather) at last,
will turn out to be better suitable for posts a little bit more backwards. It
is a pity that the cryptocoryns, very suitable and pretty aquatic plants more
and more abandon the field in favor of plants that grow fast, with which one can
reach rather quick a decent result. It is open to question if the culture that
is a little more difficult and especially the notorious cryptocorine- fall have
something to do with it. |
