Up until now the reproduction of stone corals in aquaria was just like with the soft corals increase by fragmentation. I. e. there was trend of a peace of the mother coral, either spontaneous or deliberately, which attached to a basis went to lead its own life. On the pictures above a number of examples have been indicated.
a. Above on the left a couple of shots in the aquarium of Mr. K Boots in Wognum. It pictures the brain coral Oulophyllia crispa with on the left the free growing "young animal" trend of. The inset shows how a couple of years before a slimy spot on the coral slowly grew on.
b. The inset bottom
left shows how in the aquarium of Mr. H. de Greef in Eindhoven spontaneous a "drop" is secreted from the brain coral Favites spec. This one also will bloom into a new specimen.
c.In the inset top right is to bee seen how with Trachyphyllia geoffroyi a little specimen is breaking away from the "mother animal" according this dropmethod

d. The bladdercoral, Plerogryra spec. here At D. Weerstand at Volendam, is also able to reproduce in this way. The right at the bottom picture with inset shows how the new coral as it were let itself down on a slimy thread.
e. Mid at the bottom is to be seen how a little accident can lead to reproduction by fragmentation. Meanwhile this reproduction by fragmentation has become common property amongst seawater aquarists for soft corals and stone corals as well. Promising are also the events, again with MR. K. Boots at Wognum, where a Polyphyllia talpina and a baptismal shell after putting in of a second specimen on a certain moment spontaneously began to secrete their gonadel secretion. These examples are only a little pick at random out of the numerous example's I was able to observe at judging and in certain cases could photograph also. From this place thanks to the owners.
